As geopolitical tensions and conflicts persist globally, the relationship between Türkiye and the United States is being reexamined with an aim to enhance cooperation. At the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the necessity for renewed momentum in collaboration between the two NATO allies to address international challenges effectively.
Erdoğan highlighted that past cooperation between Türkiye and the United States has yielded positive outcomes, particularly in areas concerning the Middle East. He expressed a commitment to further strengthening coordination with Washington, suggesting that both nations could significantly benefit from expanded partnerships in various sectors, including nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry.
The Turkish leader also pointed to the remarkable growth of Türkiye’s defense industry, noting an increase in annual defense exports from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He conveyed confidence that Türkiye is on the path to becoming one of the world’s top 10 defense exporters. In this context, Erdoğan called for the reduction of barriers that hinder joint defense production and urged American investors to explore burgeoning opportunities in Türkiye.
Türkiye is initiating a new investment drive, as Erdoğan described, based on a competitive incentive framework aimed at attracting foreign investment. He encouraged U.S. investors to consider the favorable conditions and incentives that Türkiye is offering, which are designed to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons, present at the event, underscored the importance of the enduring partnership between the United States and Türkiye. He emphasized how business ties and entrepreneurship play a pivotal role in fortifying bilateral relations. The gala served as a gathering point for senior officials and business leaders from both nations to celebrate and reflect upon the longstanding diplomatic and economic connections that have characterized U.S.-Türkiye relations over the past century.
