Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was congratulated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for leading the longest-serving Italian government in the nation’s republican history. Erdoğan commended Meloni on this achievement, expressing optimism that the strong ties between Türkiye and Italy would continue to flourish under her leadership.

Meloni’s administration marked 1,413 continuous days in office, surpassing the previous record of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government, which lasted 1,412 days from 2001 to 2005. Having taken office in October 2022, Meloni made history as Italy’s first female prime minister. Her tenure has been marked by a growing rapport with Erdoğan, as they have engaged in frequent dialogues concerning both bilateral and regional matters.

The collaboration between Türkiye and Italy has seen significant growth across several sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. Both nations have also aligned on key regional issues, such as the situations in Libya and Ukraine, reflecting their deepening partnership.

In April 2025, Meloni and Erdoğan co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome. This summit was a pivotal moment, resulting in numerous agreements aimed at fortifying their strategic and economic ties. The cooperation between the two countries was further affirmed during their latest meeting at the NATO summit held in Ankara in July, where both leaders reiterated their commitment to boosting trade, mutual investments, and defense collaboration.
