For the first time, Türkiye’s defense and aerospace sector has surpassed $11 billion in exports on a rolling 12-month basis, signaling a significant achievement for the nation’s defense industry. This development highlights the sector’s robust growth and expanding global presence. In June alone, Türkiye achieved $802.8 million in defense and aerospace exports, reflecting a remarkable 29.6% increase from the same month of the previous year. Over the first half of the year, the total exports reached $4.67 billion, marking a 29.5% rise compared to the same period last year.
The surge in exports can be attributed to the rising international demand for Turkish defense products and the ongoing expansion of the country’s defense manufacturing capabilities. According to Haluk Görgün, the President of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the effectiveness of Turkish defense systems in real-world operations has bolstered their reputation abroad, facilitating the formation of lasting international partnerships. This growing demand underscores the country’s successful efforts to establish itself as a formidable player in the global defense market.
Over the past two decades, Türkiye has made concerted efforts to advance its domestic defense industry, significantly reducing its reliance on foreign military equipment. The nation has focused on developing a wide array of defense products, which are now exported to a vast network of 185 countries. This strategic expansion has not only enhanced Türkiye’s self-sufficiency in defense matters but also positioned it as a major exporter on the world stage.
With more than 230 defense products in its export portfolio, Türkiye aims to further solidify its standing among the top 10 defense exporters globally. The country’s ambitious goals are supported by ongoing advancements in defense technology and manufacturing, as well as a commitment to fostering international collaboration and innovation. As a result, Türkiye continues to strengthen its influence and competitiveness in the global defense industry.
