Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has assured investors of economic stability amid an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the country’s capital markets. Authorities have moved to address concerns by supervising the liquidation of certain investment funds.
In response to the unfolding situation, Erdoğan announced the formation of a fully authorized board chaired by the vice president. This board is tasked with overseeing the liquidation process for funds affected by the investigation. Additionally, the State Supervisory Council has been instructed to participate in the oversight efforts to ensure transparency and accountability.
The Capital Markets Board has taken decisive action by closing several investment funds managed by seven portfolio management companies to trading. Some funds are also being liquidated as a protective measure for investors. These actions are part of a broader strategy to maintain confidence in the financial system while addressing potential misconduct.
Alongside these measures, judicial actions have been initiated, resulting in the arrest of five suspects connected to capital market transactions under scrutiny. Prosecutors are investigating allegations of fraud, money laundering, and violations of capital markets laws.
Erdoğan emphasized the government’s commitment to holding accountable those responsible for any wrongdoing. He reassured that the issues identified are confined to a specific segment of the fund market and that institutions are proactively working to safeguard financial stability in Türkiye.
The president’s statements come at a critical time as the country seeks to bolster its economic reputation and protect investor interests while navigating the complexities of the ongoing investigation.
