In the wake of recent investigations into potential share-price manipulation within Türkiye’s investment fund sector, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has assured the public of the resilience of the nation’s capital markets. During a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan emphasized that the issues were confined to a specific segment of the fund market and do not threaten the overall financial system.

Authorities have been proactive in addressing these challenges, with the government managing the liquidation of affected funds and implementing measures to safeguard financial stability and investors. Erdoğan highlighted that legal action would be pursued against those found responsible for destabilizing market activities.

The scrutiny began earlier this month when investigations were launched to probe suspected share-price manipulation involving several thinly traded stocks. These developments have led to financial losses and exerted redemption pressure on certain investment funds.

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek has confirmed that legal proceedings against individuals involved in the manipulation are ongoing. He assured that strategies to uphold financial stability are firmly in place.

Looking ahead, Erdoğan is set to meet with economic officials and related institutions to further assess the situation and explore additional measures to fortify the fund market against future risks.
